Plantie Spotlight

As a 23-year-old Marketing Executive living in my first apartment in Kansas City, I'm always looking for things to spice up my living space. I have found that plants are a great way to not only a way to add color, but also add life to my apartment. I may not have the greenest thumb, and you might find "how to not kill a plant" in my search history but nurturing a plant and seeing it grow has added much joy to my life.

The Inspiration

Like most twenty-somethings, I have added a bar cart to the corner of my apartment. It’s mainly for looks, but I have always wanted to utilize it to hold my craft cocktail ingredients and glasses. I used to work in a restaurant and watching the bartender use fancy liquors, mixers, and herbs was mesmerizing. The way a few random ingredients come together to make something so delicious is amazing. I have even tried to mimic their recipes myself, but either I’m usually lacking an ingredient, or the herbs I bought a week ago from the store have withered in my fridge.

All about Herbs

The other day while at the grocery store, I came across a variety of herb plants for sale, and it sparked an idea...an indoor herb garden to be used for cocktails and cooking. Maybe this could be my new year's resolution. So, the journey started, I bought mint, rosemary and basil—the core herbs for any novice at-home bartender. I brought the plants home with such excitement but realized I was lacking one thing—planters. I thought maybe I could just keep them in their nursery pots but remembered the last time I did that I woke up to dead plants. As I did some research and scoured the internet for the perfect home for my herb garden, I came across the WallyGrow Loop. I wanted something that was durable and versatile, since I won’t be living in my apartment forever. For now, I need something that can sit on a shelf, but I love how the Loop can be tied and hung in many different ways. I already have the WallyGrow Eco for my pothos and snake plants and it has made taking care of my plants so easy.

The Loop 1st Impressions

When the box with the three Loop planters arrived, I was so excited to start planting. The Terracotta and Oat Planters are a perfect mix of color to go along with my living room decor. I was so impressed with the durability of the planters and was happy I didn’t choose a cheap pot from Amazon for my garden. With a shovel and bag of soil in hand, I began to transfer the plants from their nursery pots into their new home. As an amateur gardener, the instructions were easy to follow and within a couple minutes I had my herb garden created. The drainage system on the planters make it impossible to over water, which is great.

It feels only fitting for my new garden to live next to my bar cart. Because these herbs require a lot of sunlight, the windowsill next to it is a perfect spot. I’m very excited to craft my first cocktail out of the herbs from my new garden!
